Sullivan+Strumpf, one of the Asia–Pacific’s leading contemporary art galleries, required a publication to showcase its artists, exhibitions and editorial conversations.
The challenge was to develop a clear and disciplined framework capable of presenting highly varied practices, sculpture, photography, painting and interview, without aesthetic noise. The design needed to foreground the artwork while maintaining a confident institutional presence.
Working alongside the team at More, I contributed to the development of the publication’s layout system, typographic hierarchy and pacing.
The design language is deliberately restrained. Generous margins and a consistent grid create structure and breathing room, allowing full-bleed works and large-scale imagery to hold presence without competition. Typography is clean and measured, introducing clarity and authority while remaining secondary to the art.
Moments of contrast are introduced strategically. Section openers shift scale and colour, creating rhythm across the issue and signalling transitions between artists. These gestures are controlled rather than expressive, reinforcing the gallery’s contemporary voice without overwhelming the content.
The result is a publication that feels architectural in its discipline and confident in its restraint.
It presents diverse artistic practices within a cohesive editorial framework, balancing institutional clarity with contemporary expression, and allowing the artwork to remain the primary voice throughout.
